Modifying personal settings

Contents of this page: Login | User interface | Full Name | Email Address | Password | Alias | Forward | Auto Reply Text | Qmail Delivery Mode | Created by | Modified by

Go to top of pageLogin

You can modify the personal settings of your mail account at the following login address:

where 'yourdomain' shall be replaced by the full domain name, including extension, e.g.:
    https://www.qwido.com/SuaresCo/domains/example.com/qwidoQmailUser/index.php

In order to get access, you need to enter a user name and password.
The Domain/Service Manager of your organisation can provide these to you.

Go to top of pageUser interface

This is the user screen for modifying personal settings.
You can modify your password, control automatic mail forwarding (to an unlimited number of addresses, with or without keeping a copy) and set an auto reply text.

A detailed explanation of the various options is given below.

Go to top of pageFull Name

Full name of the user.

  • When users are authorised to login to Qwido to modify their personal settings, they shall use this name as their user name.
  • The full name cannot be modified.

Go to top of pageEmail Address

E-mail address of the user.

  • The e-mail address cannot be modified.

Go to top of pagePassword

This user password shall be used for POP3, for logging in to Webmail and for logging in to Qwido.

The password can be modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

  • Passwords are case sensitive. Strong passwords have at least seven characters, comprising a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters and digits, with a symbol between the second and sixth position.
  • The minimum number of characters is 6, the maximum number of characters is 25.
Not allowed: spaces, apostrophe (`), quote ('), double quote ("), dollar ($) and forward slash (/)

Go to top of pageAlias

'Aliasses' provide you with the possibility to arrange that mail with frequently occurring address errors will come in at the right account after all. You can also enter nicknames or functions. All messages to the alias addresses will come in at the email account.

Examples of aliasses for the e-mail address j.smith: jsmith, smith, john, director.
Mail to john@example.com will automatically end up in the mailbox of j.smith@example.com

To prevent possible abuse of aliasses - users might represent themselves as another user - creating aliasses is authorised to the Domain/Service Manager only.
Please contact your Domain/Service Manager if you want to add or modify aliasses.

Go to top of pageForward

Mail to the e-mail address will be automatically forwarded, temporarily or permanently, to the 'forward addresses' that you can enter here. This option offers a nice solution for various situations: small mailing lists, distribution lists, handling mail of ex-employees and in case of prolonged illness or absence.

The forward function and addresses can be activated and modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

  • You shall enter full e-mail addresses here (which are not limited to mail adresses at your domain).
  • If you want to add multiple forward addresses, you can create extra fields by clicking the '+ button'; each field shall contain only one forward address.
  • The number of forward addresses is unlimited.

In connection with the forward function, the Qmail Delivery Mode comprises 2 extra options:

  • By checking or unchecking the option do NOT forward mail, you can inactivate or activate forwarding mail without the necessity of deleting the forward addresses.
  • By checking or unchecking the option do NOT deliver mail to mailbox, you can determine whether a copy of incoming mails shall be kept in the mailbox.

Go to top of pageAuto Reply Text

This reply text is automatically sent in response to incoming mails, if activated. People may welcome such a reply if you are absent for a longer time.

The auto reply function and text can be modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

  • Within a period of some weeks, the auto reply text will only be sent once to the same sender address. This should prevent superfluous mail traffic and - in case the sender address sents auto replies as well - interminable triggering of messages.
  • When an existing auto reply text is modified, this process will be restarted.

For activating the auto reply function, the Qmail Delivery Mode comprises the following option:

  • activate automatic reply: by checking or unchecking this option, you can activate or inactivate auto reply without the necessity of deleting the auto reply text.

Warning:

  • Be careful what kind of information you include in the auto reply text, because of possible abuse. Cases are known of fully automatised spam systems to catch auto replies and gracing the houses of the senders with a visit during holidays.

Go to top of pageQmail Delivery Mode

The Domain/Service Manager and user can here configure a number of settings, that all have to do with possible automatic handling of incoming messages.

  • do NOT forward mail: inactivates or activates automatic forwarding of messages.
  • do NOT deliver mail to mailbox: determines whether the message shall be kept in the mailbox when automatic forwarding is activated; this option can also be utilized by the user in case the user temporarily doesn't want to receive mail.
  • activate automatic reply: activates or inactivates sending of a auto reply text.

Bug warning:

Once one or more option boxes are checked, it's not possible to uncheck all options. One option box will remain checked. We try to fix this bug in due time.

In the meantime, you can overcome this problem in one of the following ways:
- Inactivate forwarding by deleting the forward addresses (instead of checking 'do NOT forward mail').
- Check the 'Activate automatic reply' box, and take care that no 'Auto Reply Text' is present.
- Delete the mail account and create a new one.
