Owner

(This field is out of use.)

Go to top of pageFull Name

Full name of the user, e.g. John Smith.

  • When users are authorised to login to Qwido to modify their personal settings, they shall use this name as their user name.
  • In case you want to equalize the login user names for Qwido with the user names for Webmail and POP3, you shall enter the full e-mail address in this field.
  • Once a user account has been created, the full name cannot be modified.

Go to top of pageEmail Address

E-mail address of the user, e.g. j.smith

  • The domain name (@example.com) is automatically added.
  • The addresses may contain the following characters: letters, digits, dots, the – character - and the _ character.
  • E-mail addresses are case insensitive: it is 'netiquette' to use only lowercase and no uppercase letters.
  • Once a user account has been created, the e-mail address cannot be modified.

Go to top of pagePassword

This user password shall be used for POP3, for logging in to Webmail and for logging in to Qwido.

  • Passwords are case sensitive. Strong passwords have at least seven characters, comprising a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters and digits, with a symbol between the second and sixth position.
  • The minimum number of characters is 6, the maximum number of characters is 25.
Not allowed: spaces, apostrophe (`), quote ('), double quote ("), dollar ($) and forward slash (/)
  • The password can be modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

Tip:

If multiple aliasses or forward addresses are added while creating a new mail account, the entered passwords will disappear as soon as extra alias or forward fields are created. In such case, it is easier entering the passwords after all other account data are completed.

This phenomenon doesn't occur when adding aliasses or forward addresses to existing mail accounts, as the passwords are already stored in the database.

Go to top of pageAlias

'Aliasses' provide you with the possibility to arrange that mail with frequently occurring address errors will come in at the right account after all. You can also enter nicknames or functions. All messages to the alias addresses will come in at the email account.

Examples of aliasses for the e-mail address j.smith: jsmith, smith, john, director.
Mail to john@example.com will automatically end up in the mailbox of j.smith@example.com

  • The domain name (@example.com) is automatically added.
  • If you want to add multiple aliasses, you can create extra fields by clicking the '+ button'; each field shall contain only one alias.
  • The number of aliasses is unlimited.
  • To prevent possible abuse of aliasses - users might represent themselves as another user - creating aliasses is authorised to the Domain/Service Manager only.

Go to top of pageForward

Mail to the e-mail address will be automatically forwarded, temporarily or permanently, to the 'forward addresses' that you can enter here. This option offers a nice solution for various situations: small mailing lists, distribution lists, handling mail of ex-employees and in case of prolonged illness or absence.

  • You shall enter full e-mail addresses here (which are not limited to mail adresses at your domain).
  • If you want to add multiple forward addresses, you can create extra fields by clicking the '+ button'; each field shall contain only one forward address.
  • The number of forward addresses is unlimited.
  • The forward function and addresses can be activated and modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

In connection with the forward function, the Qmail Delivery Mode comprises 2 extra options:

  • By checking or unchecking the option do NOT forward mail, you can inactivate or activate forwarding mail without the necessity of deleting the forward addresses.
  • By checking or unchecking the option do NOT deliver mail to mailbox, you can determine whether a copy of incoming mails shall be kept in the mailbox.

Go to top of pageAuto Reply Text

This reply text is automatically sent in response to incoming mails, if activated. People may welcome such a reply if you are absent for a longer time.

  • Within a period of some weeks, the auto reply text will only be sent once to the same sender address. This should prevent superfluous mail traffic and - in case the sender address sents auto replies as well - interminable triggering of messages.
  • When an existing auto reply text is modified, this process will be restarted.
  • The auto reply function and text can be modified at any time by the Domain/Service Manager as well as by the user.

For activating the auto reply function, the Qmail Delivery Mode comprises the following option:

  • activate automatic reply: by checking or unchecking this option, you can activate or inactivate auto reply without the necessity of deleting the auto reply text.

Warning:

  • Be careful what kind of information you include in the auto reply text, because of possible abuse. Cases are known of fully automatised spam systems to catch auto replies and gracing the houses of the senders with a visit during holidays.

Go to top of pageQmail Account Status

With this option, the Domain/Service Manager can inactivate/activate the mail account or access to the mail account. Among other things, it is meant for emergency situations.

  • active: The mail account is active: mail is delivered in the mailbox and can be read by the user.
  • noaccess: Mail is delivered in the mailbox, but cannot be read by the user.
  • disabled: The mail account is inactive: mail is no longer delivered in the mailbox (senders of messages are informed), and the user has no longer access to the mailbox.

Go to top of pageQmail Delivery Mode

The Domain/Service Manager and user can here configure a number of settings, that all have to do with possible automatic handling of incoming messages.

  • do NOT forward mail: inactivates or activates automatic forwarding of messages.
  • do NOT deliver mail to mailbox: determines whether the message shall be kept in the mailbox when automatic forwarding is activated; this option can also be utilized by the user in case the user temporarily doesn't want to receive mail.
  • activate automatic reply: activates or inactivates sending of a auto reply text.

Bug warning:

Once one or more option boxes are checked, it's not possible to uncheck all options. One option box will remain checked. We try to fix this bug in due time.

In the meantime, you can overcome this problem in one of the following ways:
- Inactivate forwarding by deleting the forward addresses (instead of checking 'do NOT forward mail').
- Check the 'Activate automatic reply' box, and take care that no 'Auto Reply Text' is present.
- Delete the mail account and create a new one.

Go to top of pageQuota (bytes)

Maximum size of the mailbox at the mail server, in number of bytes.
By setting a maximum, the Domain/Service Manager can prevent unnecessary/excessive use of the storing capacity of the mail server.

  • Recommended size for regular user accounts: 21,000,000 bytes (20 Megabyte).
You shall enter the value without using commas.

Go to top of pageQuota (messages)

Maximum size of the mailbox at the mail server, in number of messages.
By setting a maximum, the Domain/Service Manager can prevent unnecessary/excessive use of the storing capacity of the mail server.

Go to top of pageMax. message size

Maximum size of a single message, in number of bytes.
By setting a maximum, the Domain/Service Manager can prevent unnecessary/excessive data traffic.

  • The mail server has its own, overall maximum for the size of incoming messages: 21,000,000 bytes (20 Megabyte). You cannot exceed this value. You shall enter the value without using commas.
  • Additional information: As mail attachments are decoded when sent over the internet, the size will - as a rule - increase with about 35%. The pracical limit for a sender of a message is therefore 14.8 Megabyte.

Go to top of pageQwiDo Login

With this option, the Domain/Service Manager can grant permission to the user to login to Qwido for maintaining personal settings.
